Scientific Advisory Board

The Scientific Advisory Board is one of the central bodies of the European Forum Alpbach with regards to content programming: It proposes the general themes for the annual main event, prepares the Seminar week and provides the Council and the Steering Committee with advice and recommendations regarding the programme content. The Scientific Advisory Board consists of 35 renowned scientists and eminent representatives of the cultural sector, who choose one chairperson from among themselves. Currently, Caspar Einem holds this position.

The Forum Alpbach Network is represented in the advisory committees to shape the program of EFA from a young perspective!

Call for Scientific Advisory Board Members – CLOSED

FAN Advisory Board members are FAN members with an outstanding scientific or professional track. All FAN Advisory Board members are elected by representatives of the Network and are hence obliged to represent FAN and act in the best interest of the network.

To apply for a seat in the Scientific Advisory Board, please note that the following criteria need to be fulfilled as prerequisite.


  • FAN membership or other affiliation (former scholarship holder, etc.)
  • University degree
  • age ≤40 (with the application deadline)
  • willingness to travel to Vienna for meetings
  • Good command of English
  • Good command of German

Advisory Board Members are elected in Mai for two years – so they will shape the programm of EFA 2017 and EFA 2018.
For your application please fill out the form below and send your Letter of Motivation (max. 1 page), your Curriculum Vitae (max 2 pages, without publication list) and other relevant documents (e.g.: publication list)!

Applications are refereed by the FAN Board members and the currently active FAN advisory board members. Active members of a FAN advisory board who apply for reelection are not allowed to take a vote in their respective symposium.
The selection is based on the scientific excellence of the candidate, the letter of motivation, and active participation at associations and organizations of the applicant.
As soon as a decision is reached, applicants are informed promptly.
